First shoes

Today we took Charlie and Lily for their first pair of shoes! The Carellas are long-time friends of Joe and his family, and just happen to own a shoe store - Carella Shoes - here in our hometown, so naturally that's where we chose to take Charlie and Lily for their first shoe experience. Mr. Carella greeted us right at the door and set right to work measuring Charlie and Lily's feet and bringing out some shoes for them to try on.
Once we found the pairs we liked best, Mr. Carella put them on Charlie and Lily so they could try them out.
Mr. and Mrs. Carella told us that often babies will take their first steps within a few days of getting shoes, because the shoes help them balance properly. When we got home, although he didn't take any steps, Charlie stood unassisted for the first time. Yay shoes!

Once we had our shoes we had one more stop to make - the candy store/ice cream shop next door which is also owned by Carellas. Mrs. Carella made each baby a tiny vanilla ice cream cone as a treat, and Charlie went right to town on his! He wishes we could go buy shoes more often...

Carella's ice cream is good stuff... Charlie looks like he's going to town with that ice cream.

So fun! L&A just got their first pair a few weeks ago and now Amaya is already walking around in them :) It goes so fast! And they're incredibly cute.

That's interesting what they said that about their shoes. We were told (by our chiropractor and our pediatrician) that soft soled shoes actually are more helpful with balance because it allows the feet to use all of proper muscles when walking (and helps to keep the hips/back in proper alignment by doing so).

My b/g twins are almost 2yrs now, and we still buy them soft soled shoes when possible. My pediatrician described shoes purpose as being solely (no pun intended! ;-)) to protect the feet, like from scraps, hot cement, gravel, etc.

Though, I do have to say that they both look rather cute in their new shoes! :-D

That photo of Charlie with ice cream all over his face was just what I needed to see right now. Thank you, Charlie, for making me laugh!
