Green Thumbs

Weekends are pretty much always good, but this one is extra nice because the four of us get to spend it together. Our weekends often get hectic - I am a Pampered Chef consultant and frequently do cooking shows on the weekends, Joe just wrapped up a Saturday morning poetry class he was taking and there are always plenty of chores and obligations that need tending to. This weekend though our schedule was wide open, so we are enjoying some family time.

With temperatures in the 90s here and the sun shining, we decided that it was a good time to go get some flowers to plant outside the house. After their morning nap we packed the babies in the car and headed to a local garden shop to choose some flowers. It was hot, but the babies were good sports as we loaded our cart with hanging baskets and impatiens. As we were packing up to leave, the garden shop owner came over and gave us a free lily plant, in honor of the Bug. (He also told me that there is a plant called a "Weeping Charlie," but he didn't have any in stock. That's okay - it doesn't sound appropriate for our happy boy anyway!)

At home, the babies and I hung out in the shade while Joe got planting. The babies needed a nap shortly after we got back, but Joe stayed outside and finished all the work for us. The garden looks great, and it was a fun activity. Tonight we're going out to dinner to our favorite Italian place. It's the first time the babies have been there, but we're sure they'll enjoy it. Of course, they will be dining on squash and bananas rather than pasta, but still ;)

Charlie and Lily hanging in the shade.
Smiling with Mommy.
Charlie liked feeling the grass - his first time!
Our garden, waiting to be planted.
Joe hard at work - he wore his plaid shorts to match Charlie.
All done!
We picked up a few little butterflies to put in the baskets for Annaleigh. And Lily's lily is planted right underneath.
Gardening is hard work! Daddy and Lily relaxed inside once all the work was done.

Actually, the plant is "Creeping Charlie" and I'm sure you've seen it. It's a popular and hardy houseplant. Maybe would fit your boy!

Such cute pictures and they are always smiling! The lily you will love and it multiplies! I planted two one on each side of my flower beds and now we get over 50 blooms. They are beautiful but don't last long. Thanks for sharing your beautiful babies.

I've been battling Creeping Charlie in my yard, which is quite lovely but definitely loves to "creep" quite quickly! It's got darker green foliage with little purple flowers. I would not suggest putting it straight into a flower bed unless you want it taking over all your flowers and spreading to your lawn, but it would be gorgeous in a pot. You can come over and dig some out of my yard!!! :-p
